Who this checklist is for

This checklist is for the people who keep a youth sports league running: presidents, directors, safety officers and registrars. If you are responsible for getting coaches ready and keeping records straight before opening day, it puts the dates and to-dos on two printable pages you can share with your board.

Key dates

  • By January 1, 2027: coaches certified in CPR and AED use, renewed at least every two years. Your league also needs a written cardiac emergency response plan, reviewed with coaches and staff every year and sent to parents every year.
  • By January 1, 2028: an AED available at every official practice and game.

The checklist walks through each item, plus the records to keep and the extra rules for tackle football.
